Scratch-n-sniff is one of the many applications of scented printing. It can be particularly useful where a particular aroma can influence the decision-making involved in purchasing a product. In such cases, a scent folder with a scratch panel makes an effective mass-marketing tool. The technique is also ideal for introducing a new scent to a large target audience. A scent folder allows you to combine the visual identity of promotional printed matter with the option of testing the scent.
How does it work?
When the scent panel is lightly touched by a finger or fingernail, the microcapsules break open and a strong waft of scent is released. The panel can be used many times and over a long period.
For scratch-n-sniff, Silk Screen Holland uses transparent microcapsules with specific scents that are based on natural products. These capsules have no negative effects on your printed matter and are themselves encased in a strong, durable and odourless protective layer.
Achieving the right scent
Many scents leave nothing to the imagination. Nonetheless, we advise you to have an accompanying image of the subject/product printed, especially if you are working with less familiar scents. For weaker scents, ensure that the scent of your offset ink doesn't dominate; use low-odour or even odourless inks.
