Delivery specifications

Silk Screen strives for optimal and effective service. This works best if you submit your files according to the guidelines below. Any questions? Feel free to contact our DTP department via [email protected].

General

  • Preferred format: PDF/X-4 (with embedded fonts and images).

  • Finish/bleed: minimum 3 mm all around; hold 3-5 mm safety margin within the cutting edge.

  • Colour mode:

    • Spot colours: use PANTONE Solid Coated/Uncoated and name it PMS number in your file.

    • Full-colour (CMYK): deliver with an appropriate ICC profile (e.g. PSO Coated v3 (FOGRA51) or PSO Uncoated v3 (FOGRA52)).

  • Black: small text/hairlines in 100% K met overprint; big flat blacks like rich black (e.g. C60 M40 Y40 K100).

  • Transparency/overprinting: allowed; PDF/X-4 Preserves transparencies. Deploy overprint only deliberately.

  • Control test: add a screenproof/preview or reference print with it; for critical colours please send a colour sample or PANTONE reference.

File formats by application

  • Adobe Illustrator / vector (AI, PDF, SVG, EPS)

    • Preferred: PDF/X-4 or AI with linked/embedded images.

    • Do not convert fonts to outlines if you provide PDF with embedded fonts. Only outline if embedding is not possible.

  • Adobe InDesign (INDD/IDML)

    • Use File > Collect/Package so that fonts and linked images last.

    • Export preferably PDF/X-4 With bleed and cut marks.

  • Adobe Photoshop / raster (PSD, TIFF, JPEG)

    • Colour: CMYK or RGB depending on process (we convert according to profile flow on request).

    • Resolution on final format:

      • Offset/screen/small format: 300 dpi.

      • Large-format print: 100-150 dpi is usually sufficient.

    • Files: TIFF or JPEG (high quality); GIF/BMP avoid.

Lines, text and trapping

  • Minimum line thickness: 0.2 mm (≈ 0.57 pt). Avoid extremely fine serifs.

  • Text size: in reverse text (light on dark) rather ≥ 7 pt in a sturdy font.

  • Stairs/closure: by our workflow/RIP. Do not apply yourself, unless we specifically ask.

  • Registration-black/All Never use for text or surfaces.

Colour reference & proof

  • At full-colour like a colour proof or reference PDF supply.

  • At PANTONE/spot always the exact PMS number name and, if available, a physical colour sample.

Submit

  • E-mail small files to [email protected].

  • Larger files: upload via WeTransfer (or share a download link from your own cloud).

  • Always mention command name, contact, phone number, desired delivery date and (if applicable) PMS numbers.

Varnish

Lacquers are transparent or coloured coatings applied over printed matter.

Ink

Inks are liquid or paste-like colorants used to apply texts, images, and effects to a surface.

Screen protectors

It has a reflective effect, and with this technique, we can apply all sorts of foils. The application adds extra cachet to products and packaging.

Printed electronics

These are inks that conduct electricity. Through this technique, we enhance printed matter microscopically with light, sound or movement.

Gluing

For making various materials self-adhesive and for gluing them, you can turn to Silkscreen Holland.

Cast 'n Cure

A printing and finishing technique used to create a glossy, holographic or metallic effect – but without the use of traditional foil blocking.
